FILM

Stories Short & Long

From Hollywood Blockbusters and commercials to indies and experimental technology, there is nothing like telling a story.

Images created in motion or defined in a singular frame, populate my world and our imaginations.

The exciting challenge of creating those decisive and memorable moments defines a career.

VISUAL EFFECTS

Practical & Computer Generated

From creatures and miniatures, to the most epic and magical of digital creations, the true fun and magic is found in combining the right toys.

Effects can be dynamic and help define a film, or they can be discrete and invisible both making the impossible possible.

Either way, visual effects and digital technologies continue to redefine and expand storytelling across all forms and formats.

PHOTOGRAPHY

Analog & Digital

From darkroom gigs to photoshoots, photography – in its art and in  its technology – led the way to a cinematic sensibility.

A foundation in the traditional has always guided the technical path and led to creative solutions to historic problems and imagery.

Storytelling requires understanding the larger context in order to create an impactful and striking moment, a little film theory never hurt.

WEREWOLVES

Taking on one of the exciting and fun aspects of any werewolf movie, Scott led the transformation sequences and some dynamic action sequences and the teams at Digital Sandbox and Crater Studios through prep, principal photography and all phases of their animation and creature creation.

A classic creature-feature in all its fun, excitement and gore the digital artists got to create the slime, blood and ooze often associate with classic, and traditional, visual effects.

In prep and on-set Scott teamed with Alec Gillis and the artists at Studio Gillis. In extending the capabilities of their puppet and animatronic suit work, Scott and Alec worked to blend the practical designs into convincing CGI work. Scott developed the look, the enhanced performance capabilities, and the transformations that honored the practical work while extending the performance capabilities of the werewolves.

Scott supervised and designed digital creations to blend and enhance the practical look and visceral feel that director Steven C. Miller and producer Myles Nestel were chasing.

GIGI & NATE

Tasked with bringing life and emotion to one of the titular characters of the film, Scott brought his focus on performance and a number of techniques and technologies to the screen.

Animals, and in particular animal performances, bring unique challenges to the set.  From scheduling and practical logistics to the actual definition of the performance a lot goes into creating a quality animal performance.

In building a titular, and starring role for our leading lady Allie, a capuchin monkey, Scott combined a digital “Gigi,” the classic work of Amalgamated Dynamics, some hands on puppetry and second unit directing, with the visual effects work by Axis Studios to bring emotional impact to a dramatic role in character driven film.

This work involved leading our animal trainers, second unit, visual effects and the puppet team to create Gigi’s performance.  A performance focused on care and emotional connection between the two lead characters

PERFORMANCE

CREATURES

From blockbusters and B’s to indies and the experimental, there is nothing like an iconic character.

Whether doubling a leading actor, or creating a terrifying villain there is also nothing like a performance or moment that gets your (digital) name in lights.

Finding defining moments and creating on-screen impact are what our animation, puppeteering and suit performance is all about.

EFFECTS

SPECIAL EFFECTS

Whether practical or digital, many magical moments on screen are best defined as simply special. They create magic moments for our eyes, our hearts and the box office.

The arts and sciences involved in a digital explosion are pretty cool, still there is nothing quite like a little det-cord and 5 gallons of explosives to light up your night.

Here’s to having fun with both.

WORLDS

SETS & SETTINGS

Mise-en-scène for a modern era, digital set extensions and complete (re)creations have made new worlds possible and put old worlds on screen invisibly.

FILM, MOTION & STORY

With an extensive career in film and visual effects, Scott has worked on 9 Oscar winning or nominated films.
